Welcome to Moral Fibre
Fashion plays a significant role in modern society as a form of cultural and self- expression just as it did in ancient cultures. It is our natural, go-to form of connecting with our tribe, of showing up in the world. So natural that we tend to engage with it subconsciously. Without thinking. For most of us fashion serves more than a practical means of providing protection from the elements. Marketing realised this as an opportunity and a weakness to be exploited leading to a population with an insatiable appetite for fashion. But it must be sustainable!
Sustainability in any business means to strive to balance economic, socio-cultural and environmental priorities. It means to operate with an ethos that values life, the future wellbeing of society and factor this into the way we measure business success."
I am human too and I love fashion. I am an artist. I am a designer. What I wear truly matters to me. But I am not an "greenie" and I don't wish to lecture fashion consumers, just to raise awareness and offer a more sustainable choice.
I worked in the world of marketing for many years. I understand commercial realities and that a sustainable business is also one that is financially viable but I also understand the sustainability challenges we face in the world. Sustainability was one of the subjects I studied at University along with my marketing and business studies. I have always sought to use my powers for good and align my work with my values. As an artist, my work is intuitive, emotionally driven, free range and inspired by nature. I am lucky to have escaped the rat race that is marketing and these days I humbly live an artist's' life trying to create work that matters, brings joy and has minimal impact on the environment. If I can help raise awareness about the issue of fashion waste at the same time, then I feel my work serves a higher purpose.
Connecting with the natural environment inspires me and keeps me grounded. I am in awe of the power and resilience of nature. It's colours brings me immense joy, birdsong in the early morning fills my heart, and creating art soothes my soul. There is much to be grateful for in this precious world.
All my work be it in fibre and textiles, drawing, printing, ceramics, painting, mixed media, writing, photography or film allows me to explore and contemplate the world I live in. for more about my art, visit Rogues Gallery.
